Celebrations

Tomorrow we are having Thanksgiving and Christmas combined into one for one of our family that is being deployed on Tuesday to Afghanistan. Since he will miss the holidays (he has 2 small children ages 3 and 4) we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with him before he left. My SIL even put her Christmas tree up for the occasion. It is a celebration, though we are so sad to see him go-we are so proud because he is. I would appreciate your good thoughts and prayers for him while he is away.
I spent all morning in the kitchen (where I DO SO enjoy being) putting together some yummy goodness for the celebration :)
Pumpkin Trifle

Peanut Crunch Cake (the corners of this cake are so yummy as they brown a bit more than the middle)

Buttermilk Pie (which if I don't bring there are some upset people...LOL)

Candy that the children love so much :)

I am really looking forward to our celebration-perhaps that is why I am in the holiday spirit :) Of course I am always in the holiday spirit at this time of year and those that have read my blog all the years I have been blogging know how much I REALLY get into Christmas :)

NO stitching yet today...BUT still stitching on Block 5 of AaHRH until Nov 1, when the ornament challenge starts. I couldn't miss stitching with everyone on the starting day of the challenge.

Autumn at Hawk Run Hollow
Designer: Carriage House Samplings
Fabric: 40ct. Sand Dune
Fibers: DMC & Thread Gatherer Silk n colors
Start Date: 6-22-2011

OOOOH, I have lot's of interest in the Secret Santa...be mindful though-I never said it would involve anything I have stitched :) That's why I am calling it Secret Santa as you do not know what you may receive-but you will not be disappointed in the contents of the gift.

Thanks so much for visiting with me :) I so appreciate each person that leaves a comment. Please do come again!
hugs and love,

Goodies look yummy.

I think this piggy block is my favorite. I love all the uses for apples. It reminds me of Autumn and picking apples with my departed mother. She was like a little kid when we went to the orchard each Fall to pick.

What a wonderful family time! :D Hope you all have fun.

I know you have spoken of your Buttermilk Pie before but I just can't imagine how it would taste.

The snow continues to dump on us here in NJ and our beloved trees are falling right and left. :(

But, I did scoot out for a great late lunch and the ingredients for oxtail soup! Yum!

Your buttermilk pie reminds me of my Indiana sugar cream pie! I get the same lip-stuck-out reaction if I don't make it. Funny how families all have their favorite sweets. I'm glad you got to celebrate together!

My DIL loves pumpkin so last year I was forced, I mean coerced to make pumpkin fudge. Didn't have a candy thermometer so that was rather interesting. However, it was delicious. The receipe's online somewhere but I don't know where my husband found it unfortunately.
